As President, Sammy leads all business development, strategic planning, and growth activities for Caltech. He has been a resource for both the public and private sector for delivering projects, developing policy, and planning for the future of our region.
Sammy began his career as an electrician in 1998 as an apprentice with Local #3 IBEW in NYC. During his time as an apprentice and Journeyman, he worked on many large projects, including the new construction of Frank Sinatra High School in Astoria, renovations to the Queens Midtown and Brooklyn Battery Tunnels, and data system upgrades at various Goldman Sachs properties. For several years, he worked as a crew lead for heavy cable pulls, and large service and transformer installs for several high profile luxury apartment towers in NYC.
Chu also currently serves as CEO of Edgewise Energy, a NY based clean energy development firm. Edgewise Energy, in partnership with Bloom Energy and Generate Capital, developed one of the largest community distributed generation projects in the country under the Community Power Long Island banner. CPLI is currently saving Long Islanders more than $100,000 monthly on their electric bills, while providing significant climate benefits.
Prior to his current position, Chu served as a high ranking public official for both the Town of Babylon and Suffolk County. His accomplishments include operationalizing the first in the nation PACE financing program, and leading the efforts for Suffolk County during its response to SuperStorm Sandy.
Chu serves as a board member for several non-profit agencies, including the New York League of Conservation Voters, the EAC Network, and as chair of the Long Island chapter of the USGBC. Chu also serves as a trustee of Molloy University and was appointed by Governor Kathy Hochul to serve on the board of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and previously served as a Suffolk County planning commissioner.
